Niki Lauda has told the FIA to be more lenient when giving out penalties believing it was to hash on the Australian.
Danial Ricciardo was given a three-place grid penalty for failing to slow down during a red flag in practice. The red flag was for a broken timing wire on the start/finish line.
This is a new regulation and the guideline given was a five-place grid penalty.
Lauda said: If the FIA and Charlie Whiting are already starting like this, then formula one is going in the wrong direction.
“I would have given him a different penalty, and then he would have been in the front, where he belongs, and all the Australians would have enjoyed the race more.”
