Horner sees importance of American F1 driver: 'You’ve seen it with Max'

Christian Horner thinks it is more important for Formula 1 to have an American driver on the grid than a second American team, which is the wish of Michael Andretti.
Since the arrival of Zak Brown, McLaren has increasingly focused on the American market, and so an American F1 driver could be the next step. IndyCar driver Colton Herta has already been linked with Daniel Ricciardo's seat for 2024, which could make him the first American F1 driver since Alexander Rossi.

Horner on American drivers

Horner believes that an American driver is more important to the sport than a second American team. "I think we need another Mario Andretti," he said in conversation with Sky Sports.
According to the Red Bull Racing team boss, there are a number of promising talents on the way, including Formula 3 driver Jak Crawford. However, he adds that American nationality is not enough to make a big impact. "That was seen with Max in the Netherlands, with Fernando in Spain and Senna in Brazil. You need that driver to ignite the passion," Horner said.
