After Mercede-boss
Toto Wolff's recent comments,
Red Bull Racing boss
Christian Horner has hit back by saying using different fuel than Renault wasn't a mistake, as can be shown by their three Grand Prix wins in 2017.
Wolff wasn't convinced that using different fuel than Renault, the company that produces Red Bull's engine, was a wise idea. Christian Horner was quick to dismiss his rival, and said it wasn't a 'strategic mistake', as Wolff described it.
“The strategic mistake is to opt for the commercial deal rather than making sure you are on the same specification of fuel and oil as the works team,” Horner told Motorsport.com
“You’re running different calibrations on track, which doesn’t give you any learning. You’re making your life complicated if you’re having different specs. It’s a philosophy.”
Where Renault use BP/Castrol to fuel their cars, Red Bull has stuck to ExxonMobil, which is not a problem at all, the Red Bull skipper told Sky Sports F1.
“We see it as an advantage. We have a great relationship with Exxon and have done for the last 12 months."
“They are producing some great products and we see it as a technical advantage. Their products won three grands prix last year."
“We wouldn’t be using it if we didn’t see it as a technical advantage. They are a great company, great to respond, very quick and we see it as an advantage.”
