Honda have confirmed they are talking with Red Bull Racing for a deal which would see their relationship stretch past 2021. Honda joined forces with Red Bull Racing for the start of the 2019 Formula 1 season. There was doubt the Japanese engine manufacturer would walk away after 2020, but they confirmed they'd stay for the rule and regulation overhaul.
"We are talking with Red Bull about further cooperation after 2021," confirms the motor manufacturer in a conversation with Motorsport-total.com.
However, because the car industry is changing, and therefore becomes more electric, the Japanese are faced with a choice. Because governments worldwide want to prohibit the sale of gasoline, diesel and hybrid vehicles, motorcycle suppliers must look carefully at where they invest the money.

Be careful with activities

Honda manager Masashi Yamamoto also sees that the car industry has to be taken into account: “We are talking to Red Bull about the cooperation after 2021. However, we also have to take into account that the car industry is becoming electric. Many companies have to invest a lot of money, so we have to be careful with our activities and how we are going to spend money efficiently."

Formula 1 will remain the top priority for him: "Of course we are interested in Formula E and we will continue to follow and collect information. At the moment we are focusing on Formula 1, and we are not going to participate in Formula E," Yamamoto added.
