Max Verstappen says Red Bull Racing worked hard to better understand the RB22 ahead of the Mexico City Grand Prix.
Verstappen finished on the podium at COTA last Sunday, with Lewis Hamilton crossing the finish line a second behind him.
"It was a more difficult race than expected in Austin, but we need to take the positives as we still managed to secure a podium," Verstappen began. "Going on to the second race of the triple header, Mexico has very different conditions compared to Austin, so it is difficult to predict how we will fare there."
Red Bull had a busy week, Verstappen added: "There are things we need to understand with the car first and the Team has been working hard on this. Hopefully we can be a bit more competitive in Mexico; it can be quite tricky to race here, with the altitude and the overheating, so we need to make sure have the cooling right and ensure the car is in the right window. The fans here are always so passionate, which is nice to see, and it will be an interesting race!"
Verstappen currently sits fourth in the drivers’ standings, just six points behind George Russell.

Hadjar finished sixth in the United States, experiencing issues during the race. The Frenchman said: "As a Team, we all left Austin knowing that there was more on the table for us, which is a great sign of how far we have come this season. We go straight into Mexico looking to build on last weekend, fully focused on fighting at the front.
"Mexico will always be a special race for me. It was the track where I first drove an F1 car back in 2023, so it’s always nice to come back. The passion of the fans is something you can really feel around the city and on track. It gets you going as a driver."
Hadjar also has the constructors' standings on his mind. "It’s great to now be third in the Constructors’ Championship after Austin, so we arrive in Mexico looking to keep climbing as high as we can," the Frenchman concluded.
