Honda confident heading into sprint race: 'No real problems'

All weekend Honda have looked to have a very good engine over the usually fast Silverstone. Red Bull Racing's drivers have been at the forefront all weekend, while the AlphaTauri drivers have also looked fast. According to Toyoharu Tanabe, there is therefore plenty to look forward to.

Due to the new format, the Parc Fermé rules went into effect as early as Friday afternoon. However, in free practice on Saturday afternoon, Honda was still allowed to make changes to the engine. "Yes, we will run the sprint qualifying on Saturday and the Grand Prix on Sunday with the same settings. For FP2, however, the engine setting can be changed due to changes on the steering wheel," Tanabe revealed to AS-web.

"Looking at the engine there were no real problems on the first day. I think optimising is done pretty quickly after FP1. The rest of the weekend we will keep working so we can solve any problems". Those problems seemed to be there for a while for Max Verstappen.

During the first free practice he complained about a lack of power in the final corner, but according to Tanabe that was false alarm. Honda quickly saw what the problem was and the Honda Japanese explained that it was quickly solved. "Yes, it was. It wasn't really a problem. It was an action that could be solved quickly by making a change on the wheel."
