Lewis Hamilton wins the German Grand Prix after starting down in 14th with an incredible performance in Hockenheim.
Sebastian Vettel crashed out of the race about 50 laps in and had to retire.
Vettel’s car locked up and he couldn’t keep control of his Ferrari and crashed into the barrier.
Heartbreak for Vettel, but jubilation for Hamilton, who now leads the drivers’ table.
A resurgent Hamilton predictably made his way up the grid early on, with four early overtakes - a performance very similar to the one we saw at Silverstone a couple of weeks ago.
“I did,” Hamilton said to Sky Sports F1 when asked if he believed he could win the race.
“The team did a great job, the car was fantastic today.
“I’m so grateful. Thanks to God.”
Valtteri Bottas ensured Mercedes had a 1-2 at the top of the grid for the first time ever at Hockenheim for the German side.
Kimi Raikkonen made sure Ferrari were on the podium with a third place finish.
Raikkonen did lead in parts but he didn’t have the speed to keep up with Mercedes today.
Daniel Ricciardo started the race down in 19th, but quickly saw his name move up the grid with some nicely done overtakes.
It was heartbreak for the Aussie, though – as he crashed out about 30 laps in due to tyre issues and was forced to retire.
The second time in two races the Red Bull man has had to retire due to car problems.
Lance Stroll and Sergey Sirotkin also crashed out of the race and had to retire.
The conditions at Hockenheim was a lot dryer than what we saw yesterday in FP3 and for the Qualifying, but there were patches of rain that the teams had to act on.
