Lewis Hamilton placed fourth in the Austrian Grand Prix. While the upgrades seem to be working, he is still struggling compared to Charles Leclerc. When asked if there was a step forward in race pace, Hamilton kept it blunt. "For me, no."
He said, "Still losing massive ground. To lose eight seconds, nine seconds is to Charles, it's just not good enough. So that's what I've got to work on."
Hamilton struggles with Leclerc's set up
After confirming he used a set-up that was closer to Leclerc's, he said, "Just struggling with the balance, he drives a massively oversteering car that somehow slides the rears and doesn't have degradation."
Hamilton then admits, "When I slide the rears, I get massive degradation." The Briton then tacked on, "Supposedly, it took Carlos a couple of years to get used to, I don't want to do that."
"I'm improving, as I said, I was a lot closer in quali, [I just] didn't have the race pace."
Hamilton's home race, the
British Grand Prix, is set to take place on 3-6 July. This year is the first time he will grace the crowd in
Ferrari colours.
Despite the hardships, Hamilton said he was excited to be with Ferrari at
Silverstone.
"Absolutely, still loving being at Ferrari and going and seeing the British flag, there will be some red caps there, which we'll of course see."
