Formula 1’s first ever grand prix was held in 1950 at the Silverstone Circuit in Towcester, England. Now, during the 2025 season, F1 returns for the British Grand Prix on 6th July. Here is everything you need to know.
The British Grand Prix is one of the biggest Formula 1 races of the year due to the sheer number of English drivers and teams on the grid. This year, four drivers are British: Oliver Bearman (Haas), Lando Norris (McLaren), George Russell (Mercedes), and Lewis Hamilton (Ferrari).
Most of the Formula 1 teams (barring Ferrari and Sauber) have their factories in the United Kingdom. Red Bull Racing (Milton Keynes), Mercedes (Brackley), Aston Martin (Silverstone), Alpine (Enstone), Williams (Grove), and McLaren (Woking) all have their headquarters in England, with Haas and Racing Bulls having their headquarters elsewhere but bases in Britain.

Silverstone Circuit: Key facts

The Silverstone circuit has been featured on the Formula 1 calendar for many years now. While it hosted the first grand prix in 1950, the event did not permanently settle at this venue until 1987.
Ferrari holds the most wins for a constructor with 18 wins. Lewis Hamilton is the most decorated driver, holding nine wins. In 2024, he won his first race in 932 days at the 2024 British Grand Prix. Now that Hamilton is driving for Ferrari, could they extend their streak together?
The traditional circuit has 18 turns and two DRS zones on the 5.891 km (3.66 miles) track. Over the course of 52 laps, the drivers must beat not only each other but also the ever-changing British weather. As it is often temperamental.

Only three of the other 19 drivers on the current grid have managed to beat Lewis Hamilton: Fernando Alonso in 2011, Carlos Sainz in 2022, and Max Verstappen in 2023.
The British Grand Prix returns to the Silverstone circuit from 3-6th of July.
