Almost one-third of the Nürburgring 24 Hours has now been completed, with darkness having fully descended over the circuit: what weather conditions will Max Verstappen and his teammates have to face throughout the night?
So far, the Nürburgring 24 Hours has been a complete weather rollercoaster, with the race starting in damp conditions before drying out during the afternoon under bright sunshine, only for the rain to return once again in the final hours just before darkness fell over the circuit.

Overnight rain threat decreases at Nürburgring 24 Hours

Current forecasts suggest the weather conditions during the night stint should remain relatively stable after the heavy rain seen earlier in the race. Temperatures are expected to steadily drop from around 6°C at 11 PM to as low as 3°C between 2 AM and 4 AM, with mostly clear skies throughout the night before cloud cover gradually returns towards sunrise.

The chance of rain currently remains very low, fluctuating between 3% and 9%, while light south-westerly winds of around 11-13 km/h are expected across the circuit. Even without significant rainfall, however, the combination of darkness, cold temperatures and lingering damp patches around the Nordschleife could still make conditions challenging for the drivers overnight.

Gounon opens up on chaotic Nürburgring 24H conditions after stint

After climbing out of the #3 Mercedes-AMG GT3, Jules Gounon described the conditions around the Nordschleife as some of the toughest he had faced all race, with the Frenchman particularly struggling once the rain began to intensify. Running on medium tyres during the changing conditions proved especially complicated, as grip levels constantly evolved lap after lap.

Gounon explained that oil on the circuit had further worsened the situation, admitting he came extremely close to losing the car himself during the stint. Multiple drivers were caught out by the slippery surface, highlighting just how treacherous the track had become.
The Verstappen Racing driver also revealed the team later switched onto the softer Michelin compound for the second part of the stint, which offered slightly more confidence in the colder conditions before eventually moving onto full wet tyres as the rain continued to increase around the Nürburgring.
