Lewis Hamilton has spoken again about the penalty he received in Mexico, criticizing the FIA for a lack of transparency in their decision-making process.
“I don’t know if they’re aware of the way that their decisions, ultimately steer careers, can decide results of championships as you’ve seen in the past“
- Lewis Hamilton
Speaking to the media ahead of the Sao Paulo GP weekend, the seven-time world champion didn’t hold back in criticizing the governing body and the way decisions are made: “There isn’t any clarity, and I think that’s probably part of the big issue — transparency and accountability, and also kind of like the secrecy that the decisions are made in the background.
“I think it’s something that definitely needs to be tackled. But that’s probably something that needs to be done in the background, I would imagine.
In wrapping up his critique of the FIA, Hamilton also hinted at what happened in Abu Dhabi in 2021, when he lost the title to Max Verstappen following a controversial decision by then-race director Michael Masi.
“I don’t know if they’re aware of the way that their decisions, ultimately steer careers, can decide results of championships as you’ve seen in the past. Some work needs to be done there, I’m sure.“

Russell provides drastic solution after chaotic start in Mexican GP

In addition to the 10-second stop-and-go penalty Hamilton received at Turn 4 following his duel with Max Verstappen — for leaving the track and gaining a lasting advantage without slowing down — the numerous excursions at Turn 1 at the start also sparked controversy.
Many drivers, including Verstappen and Charles Leclerc, ran straight through Turn 1, rejoining the track without slowing or giving back positions, yet received no penalties.
