Fernando Alonso plans to tackle the Turn 1 start-line corner-cutting issue in Mexico his own way.
“Do it myself”

In Mexico, several drivers, including Verstappen himself, cut Turn 1 at the start, rejoining the track via the grass area into Turn 3 and visibly gaining an advantage — yet receiving no penalties.
Alonso was one of the most vocal drivers on the issue, using team radio several times to send a direct message to FOM and the stewards in an attempt to raise the matter.
When asked how this issue could be prevented in the future, the two-time world champion didn’t hesitate in his reply: “Do it myself.”
He further elaborated: “I tried many times in Sochi to do the same thing and raise the point of why we don’t do the corner in Sochi and why we do it in Baku or Monaco. In Saint-Devote, in the first corner in Monaco, there is never any problem.

“We all go through that corner where there is a wall and then everyone was cutting, and then one year I just didn’t brake for Turn 1 — I was P3 at the exit of the corner — and for the following year it was not allowed. So it will be for 2027, I guess, because if I do it in 2026 they will only change Mexico for '27.”

Hamilton takes aim at FIA for lack of transparency

In addition to the numerous Turn 1 start-line incidents, another major talking point in Mexico was the penalty handed to the seven-time world champion following his duel with Max Verstappen.
The Brit went wide at Turn 4 and rejoined the track visibly ahead of the Dutchman, without slowing down or giving the position back, which triggered a 10-second penalty — while other incidents went unpunished.
