Lewis Hamilton is uncertain about the kind of racing spectacle Sunday’s race in Suzuka will deliver following the issues seen in qualifying. After scoring his first
Ferrari GP podium in Shanghai, the Briton has endured a difficult weekend so far in Japan, qualifying in sixth place.
Speaking to the media after qualifying, with a focus on Sunday’s race, he said: "I really have no clue how the racing is here. I didn't really get around anybody on track. This is not normally a track with a lot of overtaking, so I expect it to be less than the last race. I hope there's some.
Asked whether Turn 1 could be a good opportunity to gain positions, the seven-time world champion said: "It's an SM zone, so maybe. I really don't know. It's a long straight before it, so you usually come around the last corner with no battery left."

He explained that his first run had been promising before losing roughly two and a half tenths on the straights after a snap disrupted the energy deployment, costing him a shot at a stronger result, with fourth place within reach. Hamilton ended up around a tenth and a half behind Leclerc.
The Ferrari driver added that while a podium could be a challenge, the race pace appears solid. He also noted that McLaren have taken a step forward, pointing to the strength of their Mercedes power unit, which he believes currently holds a clear advantage.
