Despite the mandatory two stop rule not working in the races favour, Lewis Hamilton would like to keep trying. The Ferrari driver does not believe this one attempt is all it should be given. The
Monaco Grand Prix was not able to deliver on its promises of an entertaining race, but that didn't stop seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton from defending the 'experiment'.
Hamilton thinks they need to keep trying
Hamilton was asked if he thought
Formula 1 should keep the experiment of trying a mandatory two-stop rule in Monaco going. He said, “
No, definitely. They need to keep on trying with this one, for sure." He then admitted, "It felt very similar to previous times. It's a very, very difficult track.”
The Briton was one of the few drivers able to improve his results due to “team games". Isack Hadjar and Liam Lawson were playing the team game and backing up the pack for their pit stops. This allowed Hamilton to move up from seventh to fifth in the end due to Hamilton undercutting Hadjar.
While Hamilton was not able to make it back up to his pre-penalty position, he did get close.
Hamilton continued, “You obviously can't overtake. But still, an amazing spectacle and an amazing location. So many people, I've never seen so many people here, it's insane.”
“To drive it on a single lap, it's incredible. So the Friday and Saturday is unbelievable and the Sunday is kind of the day that you want off almost.”
