Hadjar pays tribute to Hamilton, reveals why he is his idol

Isack Hadjar has explained why Lewis Hamilton remains one of his biggest inspirations. The rookie also labelled the seven-time champion his idol.

Hadjar, who appeared on French television Clique TV, responded to a question about his relationship with Hamilton. Quizzed about why he chose the British driver as his idol, the Racing Point star said:

“In F1, yes. He and Ayrton Senna. He never won a title racing dirty. He always won mano-a-mano.”

Further expressing his thoughts, Hadjar continued:

“Yes, if there is a guy on the grid who deserves his place and who went for it with determination, it’s Hamilton. He also knew how to make a difference. Everyone knows his career is extremely inspiring. On top of that, he’s a great person, both professionally and personally.”

Like Hadjar, several young drivers have often praised Hamilton as their idol and inspiration. Only recently did Haas driver Oliver Bearman credit the Scuderia Ferrari driver for helping him adapt to the high-octane world of Formula 1.

Hamilton lauds Hadjar for his podium finish

Earlier, Hamilton reacted to Hadjar claiming his maiden podium during the Dutch Grand Prix. The British driver took to social media to celebrate the young French driver following his outing in Zandvoort.

Hamilton, who endured a difficult outing himself, highlighted in his Instagram post how delighted he was with Hadjar’s performance. He also expressed his happiness for the family of the French driver.

During the Grand Prix in Zandvoort, Hadjar qualified a career-high fourth place and finished the race in third after Lando Norris suffered an engine failure during the final stretch.

Hamilton, on his part, suffered a crash on the 23rd lap after making contact with slippery kerbs during the race.
