Romain Grosjean has shared on social media a photo of the helmet he was wearing during his horrific crash at the 2020 Bahrain Grand Prix.
“5 years after November 29 2020, I got reunited with my race helmet.”

The 2020 Bahrain Grand Prix produced one of the most harrowing moments in Formula 1’s recent history. On the opening lap, Grosjean clipped another car and slammed into the barriers at high speed, the impact tearing the car apart and unleashing a huge fireball.
The Frenchman was trapped in the flames for several seconds before managing to escape with the help of the medical team.

Despite suffering burns to his hands, he avoided any life-threatening injuries. His survival was widely credited to the sport’s modern safety standards — most notably the halo — with the incident standing as a stark reminder of how far Formula 1 safety has evolved.

“5 years after November 29 2020, I got reunited with my race helmet, he wrote via his Instagram account. “I didn’t know if I was ready to see it but my kids really wanted to understand how I got so well protected in the fire and what did happen that night.
I’ll forever be grateful to Bell Racing and Alpinestars for protecting me so well in that moment. Life goes and we forget, but that reminds me how much we should make the most of our lives every day.”

Earlier in September, Grosjean also had the chance to get back behind the wheel of a Haas car during a TPC test at Mugello.
"It was a special day, of course, Gene Haas, Ayao Komatsu, they made it happen. I drove the car, it was a wet day, but as we say, it was a rainy wedding, a happy wedding," the Frenchman said while reflecting on the special occasion.
