With the introduction of the sprint race in Formula 1, everyone has an opinion about the new format. So does Fernando Alonso, who is happy with the sprint race. Yet the Spaniard suggests something else.
"I think it's a good format because we have action on all three days, Friday, Saturday and Sunday and that's good for the crowd. I hope we can keep it, although I would make it a bit spicier," Alonso told Spanish magazine Marca.
"What I would do with Friday is try to have only one set of tyres and only one attempt at qualifying, for everyone. It would give us all the same options and it wouldn't be unfair," said the two-time champion.

Fastest drivers not at the front

Alonso explained why he would win the show: "Because maybe that would change something, because here on Friday we had six sets of tyres and six attempts and we all finished more or less where we should have been, according to the performance of our cars. That might change and make the sprint race on Saturday better if one of the fastest cars is not on the first two rows."

With qualifying on the Friday night before the sprint race, the grid doesn't look very different than usual. Usually, fans can assume that the fastest drivers will start at the front in the sprint race.
