The opening lap of the Mexican Grand Prix delivered immediate drama, with a fierce battle between the two Ferrari drivers shaking up the order at the front.
Lewis Hamilton initially retained the lead into Turn 1, holding off an attack from teammate Charles Leclerc at the opening chicane. The Monegasque then attempted a move around the outside of Turn 4 but ran onto the grass, catching Hamilton by surprise as Max Verstappen also capitalised on the battle between the two Ferraris.
Leclerc emerged from the opening exchanges in the lead, with Verstappen moving into second and Hamilton dropping to third. Further down the field, Isack Hadjar spun and fell to the back of the pack.
Meanwhile, Kimi Antonelli has overtaken George Russell and is currently firmly on course to secure his maiden Formula 1 world championship, with the live standings putting the Italian comfortably in the title-winning position.
