The Austrian Grand Prix marked a special moment for the Alfa Romeo driver Antonio Giovinazzi as the Italian scored his first point in Formula 1. This seasons midfield battle has been incredibly tight and scoring points is vital as only a few points will separate the teams come the end of the season.
“I’m so happy to score my first point. It’s a great feeling and it’s a big weight off my shoulders,” Giovinazzi said to the Official F1 Website. “I think this is the maximum we could have done so I’m really pleased. We had a really positive qualifying, but the race was very difficult.
“Sergio Perez was right behind me for most of the afternoon and the pressure was heavy, but I really wanted this point. I feel a lot of our work has been rewarded today, but we have to continue moving forward. Since France we have done a step in the right direction and we have to keep it up.”
Alfa Romeo are currently 6th in the constructor's championship with Racing Point only three points behind them in 7th. It's going to be an incredibly tight season and Giovinazzi will hope to score more points next time out at Silverstone.
