The Toro Rosso man hasn't given up hope despite Red Bull's strong driver line-up.
Pierre Gasly might be a Toro Rosso man at the moment but he hasn't stopped dreaming about the possibility of securing a Red Bull seat one day with the senior outfit. With rumours circulating that Daniel Ricciardo might leave the Red Bull team at the end of 2018, Gasly knows that he has a potential opportunity to secure a huge promotion and with it, chances of race victories.
Ricciardo's current contract expires at the end of 2018 meaning he would be available to all of the big teams should they want to secure his services. Regarded as one of the best overtakers on the grid, there are sure to be a few heads turning and the prospect of securing the Australian for 2019 and beyond which opens up a seat at Red Bull, a fact Gasly is all too aware of.
Another promising driver fresh from the seemingly endless conveyer belt of talent in Red Bull's young driver programme, he replaced Daniil Kvyat midway through 2017 and had a strong if not incredible debut season. Should Ricciardo jump to the likes of Mercedes or Ferrari, the Frenchman is in prime position to take advantage.
"Of course! My goal is to fight for the title," said the 22-year-old junior bull.
"I'm a Red Bull driver and I strive to race for the main team, but it's too early to say more about it than that.
"I'm preparing for my first full season in Toro Rosso, so that's my main task,"
Red Bull team principal, Christian Horner maintained the team were looking to continue with Ricciardo alongside Max Verstappen, but did acknowledge that there were several other options the team could explore for 2019.
"We are relatively relaxed because we have got some great options available to us. We want people and we want drivers that want to be in the team, "said Horner in Melbourne.
"It doesn't feel right to have to go and force an issue, or to force a decision. Daniel knows what the position of the team is. We want to continue with him.
"The door is open but it won't stay open forever. There will come a point in time that it is: 'okay, it is either get off the fence or we will have to take up own options."
