On 13 May 2025, Formula 1 has officially turned 75 years old. The first ever Grand Prix took place at Silverstone in the United Kingdom. Giuseppe Farina won for Alfa Romeo, and he was later crowned world champion in the competition's inaugural season.
In 1950, the British Grand Prix was the first step in Formula 1's long journey up to this point. That season, only seven weekends were hosted in total. In comparison, six Grands Prix were already completed in 2025, and the seventh is set to be hosted this weekend in Imola. Currently, Oscar Piastri leads in the drivers' standings, 16 points ahead of Lando Norris and 32 points ahead of Max Verstappen.
Already during the first season, many current classics hosted Grands Prix together with Silverstone, including Spa-Francorchamps and the Autodromo Nazionale Monza.

75 Years of Formula 1

Throughout the years, the competition has seen many of the greatest champions. Juan Manual Fangio set the pace with five world titles in the 1950s, and many famous rivalries followed, including the ones between Niki Lauda and James Hunt, and Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost.
Michael Schumacher dominated with Ferrari at the beginning of the new century, and then, Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen also continued to rewrite the record books.
Celebrating their birthday, F1 posted a video on social media reviewing all key moments, from crashes to the greatest drives and drivers.
