At the Miami Grand Prix, McLaren managed to claim another one-two finish, with Oscar Piastri winning ahead of Lando Norris. Martin Brundle sees however that their rivals can still cause problems for the Woking-based team. In the state of Florida,
George Russell crossed the finish line roughly 37.5 seconds behind the winner Piastri in third position.
Brundle explained however that Russell and also
Max Verstappen can cause issues for McLaren, despite how dominant they seem to be in this moment in time.
"The problem McLaren are going to have is if Max Verstappen and George Russell keep pumping in the results, and Mercedes have got an update coming at Imola that they're quite excited about, but I'm sure they'll all improve to an extent," the Sky Sports analyst said on The F1 Show.
He then pointed out a situation that Williams had to face in the 80s, with Nigel Mansell and Nelson Piquet sitting in their cars.
"If they're there, there's no doubt in my mind that Piastri and Norris will take points off each other. So they've got to be careful that they're not so focused on each other that somebody else comes in and wins the championship, as Alain Prost did in 1986."
Piastri with an impressive stat after the Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix
Thanks to his victory in Miami, Piastri managed to become the first McLaren driver to win three Grands Prix in a row since Mika Häkkinen did so back in 1998.
The Australian currently leads Lando Norris by 16 points in the drivers' standings, while Max Verstappen's gap to the McLaren driver stands at 32 points.
