From Isack Hadjar following in Max Verstappen's footsteps with a special helmet for the final Dutch Grand Prix, commemorating his maiden F1 podium at Zandvoort, to Jos Verstappen revealing who he used to consider the 'karting GOAT', let's take a look at the main Formula 1 headlines from Monday, 17 August. The Frenchman has followed his teammate in unveiling a special helmet for the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort, with the Racing Bulls driver choosing a design that celebrates the first Formula 1 podium of his career.
Hadjar finished third at the Dutch circuit in 2025, benefiting from Lando Norris' late car failure to secure his maiden F1 podium. His new helmet takes inspiration directly from the trophy he received that day, while its predominantly white design features blue waves in a nod to Zandvoort's location next to the beach.
The design also references a memorable moment from the celebrations that followed his breakthrough result. While Racing Bulls were posing for a team photo, the trophy was accidentally broken in two, prompting Hadjar to burst out laughing. His reaction to the incident is depicted on the back of the helmet, while the front features an image of the broken trophy itself.
The helmet reveal also plays on the incident, with the accompanying caption warning that it should be handled with care while explaining that the design celebrates Hadjar's first Formula 1 podium.
David Coulthard has recalled a conversation that left him particularly surprised while having dinner with Mark Webber, Martin Brundle, Jos Verstappen and Max Verstappen’s manager Raymond Vermeulen. With several figures closely connected to motorsport sitting around the same table, the discussion eventually turned to drivers and their respective backgrounds in karting.
It was during that conversation that Jos Verstappen offered a particularly glowing assessment of
Alexander Albon. According to Coulthard, Verstappen regarded the Thai driver as the standout talent of his karting days, describing just how impressive Albon had been at that stage of his career. The verdict caught Coulthard off guard, especially because he considers Jos someone who is generally quite reserved when expressing his opinions, aside from his natural focus on his son Max.
Coulthard explained that Verstappen’s comments carried particular weight given how heavily involved the family had been in karting and how closely they had followed that environment. The fact that Albon had managed to stand out so strongly therefore stayed with the former McLaren and Red Bull driver.
Looking at Albon’s current situation, Coulthard believes that the Williams driver could still demonstrate the qualities that earned him such high praise during his karting years. In his view, much will depend on Williams providing Albon with a car that gives him the opportunity to fully showcase those abilities.
