Another former Ferrari employee will be joining the ranks of McLaren soon. Luca di Montezemolo was once the Chairperson of Ferrari and a notable part of their comeback phase in the 1990s. Montezemolo has been appointed as a new board member of
McLaren Group Holdings Limited, which has a minority stake in McLaren’s Formula
1 team. This comes after an investment company from
Abu Dhabi, CYVN Holdings, completed a full takeover in April.
The Italian becomes the ninth board member to join McLaren Group Holdings Limited, in a new effort to restructure.
Montezemolo in Formula 1
Montezemolo was once a driving force behind Ferrari. During his time with the Italian Scuderia, Ferrari benefited from the successes of
Jean Todt,
Ross Brawn, and
Michael Schumacher.
Montezemolo is a big name in
Formula 1. The
Italian was the main man behind the success of Ferrari in the late ’90s and early
’00s. Montezemolo was the president of Ferrari during the years of great success
with Jean Todt, Ross Brawn, and Michael Schumacher.
In 2014, Montezemolo left Ferrari as he did not get along with Sergio Marchionne, the new FIAT CEO. Since then he has not been active in Formula 1.
