According to Sky Sports reporter Craig Slater Max Verstappen and Adrian Newey "didn't click as personalities", despite having "high regard" for each other.
Newey joined Red Bull Racing from the 2006 season after nine years at McLaren, going on to win six construcotrs' championships and eight drivers championships in his time at the Austrian team.
Four of those world championships that Newey helped create went the way of Max Verstappen, inclduing a record-breaking 2023 season.
However, in 2024, it was the end of the road for Newey and Red Bull, leaving after the 2024 Miami Grand Prix, then going on to join Aston Martin for the 2025 season and beyond.
Adrian Newey and Max Verstappen saw six titles go the way of Red Bull during their time together at the Austrian team.

Newey and Verstappen 'weren't the closest of companions'

Newey's departure from Red Bull then saw a steep drop-off in performance from the Austrian team, winning just five races for the rest of 2024 after the Brit left.
Speaking on Ted's Podbook for Sky Sports, Slater said: “He also pointed [out] that he did not want to comment on Perez’s claim that since Adrian Newey has gone, that’s been the trigger of all Red Bull’s issues.
“People tell me that they did not have… I’m not saying Max and Adrian Newey had a kind of problem relationship at Red Bull. But I’m not sure that they were the closest of companions in arms, if you like. That’s been expressed to me.”
“Professionally, I do think they hold each other in high regard, but what I’m saying is it’s been expressed by one or two people that they didn’t maybe click as personalities,” Slater concluded.
