Formula 1 has released a graphic comparing the drivers' performance in nine races from the 2024 and 2025 F1 seasons. Here is how the drivers fared. The biggest surprise of the season has been that
Oscar Piastri is on top, not
Lando Norris. Heading into the season, it was widely believed to be Norris’s year. However, the statistics do not reflect that.
2024 vs 2025 ranking
Max Verstappen, who held the championship lead for 1,029 days, is no longer in the top spot. Instead, Piastri is 10 points in the lead. Verstappen is now in third place with 137 points, 39 behind Norris, who stands in second with 176 points. That is a steep decline from holding 194 points at this time last year.
It is not only verstappen that has declined in the past year. Among the
Red Bull Racing driver is
Charles Leclerc, Carlos Sainz, Fernando Alonso and Yuki Tsunoda.
Segio Perez lost his seat in Formula 1 altogether at the end of the 2024 season.
While Lewis Hamilton seems to be struggling at his new team, Ferrari, he is up two positions and 16 points from last year. George Russell, Alex Albon, and Esteban Ocon have also improved from last year.
Two new additions make the top 10 this year, rookies Kimi Antonelli and Isack Hadjar, ranking 7th and 9th retrospectively.
