An unexpected red flag in Las Vegas and Red Bull hitting a big milestone — recap the best moments of the day with GPblog's F1 Today!

What happened during the first two practice sessions?

Charles Leclerc set the pace in the first session of the weekend in Las Vegas. The Monegasque driver set a 1:34.8, finishing ahead of Alexander Albon and Yuki Tsunoda.
Championship leader Lando Norris then re-claimed the lead in the second free practice session. The McLaren driver set a 1:33.6. Continuing the pattern seen at the Sao Paulo GP, Kimi Antonelli finished second behind the Briton, while Leclerc completed the top three. The Ferrari driver’s session ended on a sour note with a gearbox failure. Max Verstappen set the ninth fastest time.
There was also a mysterious red flag in FP2. Race control shared it happened because a marshal reported a loose manhole cover.
After the first sessions, there are more question marks than answers. Read our feature on that topic here!

Drivers react to the first sessions

After the sessions, four-time world champion Verstappen told F1TV: "It's just difficult to understand what to do with the interruptions. We still need to improve a little to find more grip out there.
"The track is improving quite a bit every session, so we will focus on that to see how we manage the tyres in qualifying and the race."
Championship leader Norris was positive after finishing FP2 fastest. The McLaren driver commented: "I think we have a better feeling in the car than last year."
Lewis Hamilton was also optimistic about the SF-25. He added: "I've got some good learnings out there and I'm excited for tomorrow."

Red Bull hits major milestone

Red Bull's in-house power unit for next year is in production, Paul Monaghan confirmed in Las Vegas.
The Chief Engineer said in Las Vegas: "Some things are already set in stone. So the engines are in manufacture. We've got large chunks of the car in manufacture."
