The 2025 Imola GP weekend kicked off today with the first two free practice sessions at the track. Before we move onto qualifying, lets discuss everything that happened today during a busy track day in Emilia-Romagna! Mclaren looking to dominate this weekend
McLaren dominated the timesheets in both FP1 and FP2, with Oscar Piastri setting the pace. His strong performance raises the possibility of a fourth consecutive win in what's shaping up to be a dominant season for the team.
However, CEO
Zak Brown stressed the importance of qualifying this weekend. In regards to the teams performance he stated:
"I think it looks good, but we need to string together perfect laps, because the top-5 could end up within a tenth of each other’’.Verstappen struggles with the car
Verstappen had a tough start to the weekend as he complained during FP2 about the cars performance. Not only does the car have issues, Verstappen has argued that it is not fast enough to compete this weekend.
Meanwhile, Helmut Marko has given
positive news on the issues faced and believes that the team will be strong enough.
Ferrari break issues
Both
Ferrari drivers struggled this weekend as they faced unexpected break issues during their home race weekend at Imola, adding pressure as they look to deliver in front of the passionate Tifosi.
Hamilton's breaks were worked on during FP2, however he remained in P11. Teammate Leclerc also struggled with a unique helmet issue in FP1, as he had to hold down his helmet with his hand during his time on track.
The
team also faced a fine issued by the FIA stewards of 5000 euros after a breach of tyre regulations.
Ferrari will want to improve on their performance in an important qualifying session tomorrow.
