Monaghan: 'We're not going to sit still after Verstappen's comments'

Paul Monaghan, Red Bull Racing's chief engineer, would prefer not to think back to the weekend in Monza. The Italian Grand Prix was a very painful one for the Austrian team and Max Verstappen. Verstappen already pointed out the problems on the RB20, and in Baku, both Perez and the reigning world champion have a new floor.

Monaghan told media outlets, including GPblog, that the modifications to the car were well needed. "Well we're not going to sit still from his comments or our performance in Monza and do nothing, come here and hope. So there are many ways to address what we found about the car's behaviour from Monza."

Red Bull Racing introduced a new floor ahead of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. It may be one update, but it is no small one. "It touches all the aspects of the car, not just whether we revise the floor geometry or wing geometry. So it would be naive of us to think that we can just leave it," Monaghan said.

The 56-year-old Briton feels that looking back at Monza is not pleasant. "So we've licked our wounds, learned our lessons. Proof in the pudding will be obviously Sunday, but we've tried to bring changes to the car and make it better. We don't want to watch Monza again. It wasn't the most pleasant event for us so we'd like to improve."
