F1 Full Results | Antonelli tops chaotic Spanish GP FP3 as Hamilton crashes out

Antonelli's lap time of 1:32.797 was enough to beat X to the top spot in FP3 at the Madring, the brand new semi-street track hosting the Spanish capital’s first Grand Prix since the Circuit del Jarama in 1981.

As is the norm during FP3, drivers were slow to emerge for on-track action, but after first 20 minutes, times quickly began to tumble as Antonelli and Leclerc exchanged top spot - the latter putting in an impressive 1:33.332.

After a fairly uneventful start to the session, drama ensued just over 20 minutes in when Lewis Hamilton locked up and crashed into the barrier at the Madring's final corner, bringing out the second red flag of the weekend.

Despite pleas from his race engineer Carlo Santi to stop immediately, the seven-time world champion continued to make his way around the circuit for some time, carrying a damaged front wing under his SF-26. How the stewards view that incident could now very well shape the Ferrari driver's Spanish GP weekend.

With just 15 minutes of FP3 running to go, race control brought the session to a temporary stop as marshals and circuit staff continued to work on barrier repairs.

After 40 minutes of repairs, the session was back underway, with Leclerc the first driver all weekend to get into the 1:32s. Having missed FP2 on Friday, Norris impressed to go second, just 0.07s behind the Monegasque. Antonelli, however, responded in style to the Ferrari man, putting himself on top with his 1:32.797 on a late lap.

At the last minute, a second red flag was out. Ollie Bearman clipped the wall at Turn 10 and suffered a big crash to end the session. Thankfully, the young Briton was out of the car in quick time, but Haas have a lot of work to do to get his car repaired for Qualifying later on today.
