Lance Stroll offered a rather downbeat assessment of Aston Martin’s performance at the season-opening Grand Prix in Melbourne. “Racing is a strong word but we got out, we circulated”
- Lance StrollLike his teammate, the Canadian retired from the race not once but twice, effectively turning the Grand Prix into an additional test session to better understand the car and the issues affecting the power unit.
Speaking to GPblog after the race, Stroll said: “Racing is a strong word but we got out, we circulated. It was the only session I did all weekend really so it was nice to drive around the track a little bit and to get some kilometers in the car.
He also added that Aston Martin's main issue is that “we just don't have any speed and no reliability so that's the biggest thing.”
Alonso reveals damning verdict as dangerous issue continues to hurt Aston Martin
The Spaniard had made an excellent start to the race, even climbing into the points by the end of the opening lap, but his progress was short-lived as he was soon forced to retire with a technical issue.
He explained that it was far from pleasant driving the car with that level of vibrations.
According to him, Honda believes the modifications introduced since Bahrain have reduced the vibrations affecting the battery, but the issue has not yet been fully addressed on the chassis side, as the battery still needs to be isolated in a different way.
