American driver confirms talks with this F1 team over 2026 seat

Next season, the American Cadillac will enter Formula 1 as the eleventh team, which means that there will be two extra spots on the grid.

GPblog was already able to report earlier that the first spot at Cadillac will go to Valtteri Bottas. The second spot has not yet been awarded, but Formula 2 driver Crawford was able to confirm in Hungary that he is in talks with the team.

''I'm obviously trying to, on my side, find a spot on the grid for next season,'' Crawford replied to a question from GPblog.

According to the American, it is also very early in the year, and there is therefore not much haste required. "It still feels very early in the season - even though there are only four races left in Formula 2, for Formula 1 it still takes quite a long time. So yeah, I just have to keep doing my job from my side."

Asked whether the talks with Cadillac put extra pressure on him, he said it doesn't really have much influence on him: ''I would say it doesn't affect me too well. For quite a while that's kind of what I've needed to do. I've done well with that pressure. I don't feel much added pressure compared to the beginning of the year.''

However, he added: ''I know it's my last shot in F2. I know it's my last shot to get to F1. So anyways, I still have that pressure. So, yeah, I wouldn't say it's much changed.''
