After Lewis Hamilton claimed his first victory with Ferrari last weekend, Formula 1 returns to action next Friday with the Austrian Grand Prix. At the Red Bull Ring, the home team will also bring some updates.
The Formula 1 season continues with the Austrian Grand Prix in Spielberg next weekend. After Michael Schumacher’s victory at the circuit in 2003, the Red Bull Ring returned to the Formula 1 calendar for the 2014 season. The venue also hosted two Grands Prix in both 2020 and 2021.
Max Verstappen has been the most successful driver at the Austrian Grand Prix. The Dutchman has won the race on four occasions, in 2018, 2019, 2021 and 2023. He also won the Styrian Grand Prix in 2021. Among the current drivers on the grid, Lewis Hamilton, Valtteri Bottas, Charles Leclerc, George Russell and Lando Norris have also won in Austria.

Red Bull Racing brings updates for the 2026 Austrian Grand Prix

Red Bull Racing CEO and team principal Laurent Mekies said that the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix was a reality check for his team, after Verstappen finished fourth after Kimi Antonelli's late DNF, but was not in contention for stepping on the podium.

Speaking to GPblog, among others, Mekies confirmed Red Bull's updates for the next race. He explained: "I think we were expecting a reality check in Barcelona. First track with a long straight, the medium-speed, high-speed corners, it's probably the first time after China and Japan where we come back to this sort of track. So we are expecting certainly a different performance compared to Monaco, where we could certainly fight for pole position.
"I think this weekend confirmed progress because what we are talking about is three or four tenths from pole position, or three or four tenths from what you need to do to fight for the win. And that was certainly a very different picture at the beginning of the year on this sort of track. There is still a gap, no doubt, PU side, chassis side. That's what we need to fight for next.”
“In Austria, hopefully we'll get lighter there. The plan is to get the car to eat a little bit less there, and to get on a bit of a diet," he concluded.
