Brundle is clear: 'If Verstappen had Newey clause, he would use it'

For quite some time now, there have been rumours about a possible departure of Max Verstappen from Red Bull Racing. After the departure of Adrian Newey at the team, the topic is only growing. Sky Sports analyst Martin Brundle talks about how he sees the situation.

Verstappen himself has already made it clear several times that he does not want to leave Red Bull as long as the team stay together. With the departure of Newey from the Austrian racing stable, the first important pawn falls away. Subsequently, many people wondered whether Verstappen would have an exit clause in the event of the master designer's departure. Team principal Christian Horner has already debunked this theory.

Brundle explained what he thinks would happen if Verstappen did have a clause in his contract to do with Newey: "If Max has got an exit clause, I would think he's going to use it quite quickly, although they could use it as a lever to go, we'll stay next year, because the cars are not going to change a whole lot next year."

The former Formula One driver continued: "Walking away from a Red Bull at the moment with the momentum, Max has probably got this year's and next year's championship relatively easily available to him. So we'll have to wait and see. I think it might be the power unit that bothers Max in terms of the unknown. But again, I've been around the Red Bull powertrains. My goodness, what an impressive setup that is. So I think it's going to be quite interesting if there are cards to be played in terms of exiting anywhere. How could they be played?
