Lewis Hamilton is back to his very best after securing his first-ever Ferrari victory at the Barcelona-Catalunya GP, that is according to British media after the seven-time world champion became the first non-Mercedes driver to win a Grand Prix this season.
An aggressive three-stop strategy up against the two-stopping Mercedes duo of George Russell and Kimi Antonelli, along with some help from a Lap 62 Virtual Safety Car, delivered a historic victory for Hamilton and Ferrari at the Circuit de Barcelona - 30 years on from Michael Schumacher's first win in red at the very same circuit.
British media also ought to be pleased with the full podium in Barcelona, ultimately completed by Russell and McLaren's Lando Norris to form F1's first all-British top three for the first time since Jackie Stewart, Graham Hill, and John Surtees at the US Grand Prix in 1968.

BBC Sport

Focusing on Hamilton's Barcelona GP win, BBC Sport have hailed the Briton's performance as a statement not only to himself, but the wider F1 world - that his move from Mercedes to the Scuderia has been justified and that Ferrari can return to the very top of the sport.

"Lewis Hamilton's historic first victory for Ferrari in the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix was a statement to himself as well as to the rest of Formula 1, and the watching world.
"It answered doubts Hamilton admitted to having at times himself about whether he could still do the job at the pinnacle of the sport he once dominated. It justified his decision to leave Mercedes for Ferrari. And it proved Ferrari could get back to winning ways after a period that was as difficult for them as it was for the driver who has delivered their first Grand Prix win since Mexico in October 2024."

The Daily Mail

The Daily Mail have also hailed Hamilton's turnaround from his disastrous 2025 debut season with Ferrari, with the Briton becoming the first Ferrari driver to fail at scoring a podium all season in 44 years. Now, Hamilton is on a charge in red - only 41 points behind championship leader Antonelli after the Italian's Barcelona DNF.

"For Hamilton this was redemption after a nightmare first year with Ferrari in 2025 saw him struggling for pace and suffering a crisis of confidence that led him at times to question his own ability.
"He’s been able to turn things around by sheer hard work back at the Ferrari factory in Italy, and by getting the team to gel around him by the sheer force of his personality."

The Telegraph

For The Telegraph, Hamilton's maiden Ferrari win pushes back on claims that the seven-time world champion's move to the Italian team has at all tarnished his glowing F1 legacy, with the 2026 regulation change, away from a difficult ground effect era of cars, a key factor for his return to form.

"Hamilton on top again. Who would have thought it? Certainly not the many, many people who wrote him off towards the end of his time at Mercedes. Or the many more who said the seven-time world champion was doing irreparable damage to his legacy pootling around in a Ferrari last year, miles behind his team-mate Charles Leclerc.
"Hamilton was always adamant that he wanted the chance to see what he could do with the 2026 regulations, and with a car into which he had actually had some input. Turns out he can do quite a lot. Hamilton has looked a completely different driver this year. Time will tell whether Ferrari have enough in the tank to take the title fight to Mercedes."
