Valtteri Bottas believes that second place was the best Mercedes could do in Canada after Sebastian Vettel dominated proceedings in Montreal from lights out. The Finn did gain a position off the line on Max Verstappen but couldn't catch the race winner.
"Since lap one they seemed to be a bit quicker all the time and they could control the race. We were really pushing on it but we got in trouble at the end with running out of fuel which allowed Max to close up.
"I think this was the maximum today. Yesterday was about hundredths of a second and maybe from pole it could have been different but from P2 today, I think we maxed out."
Bottas had looked to close the gap between the leader and himself in the closing stages however a mistake into turn two cost him two seconds and put an end to any hopes he of the race win.
