Binotto insists there are positives from Canada

Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto has insisted there are still some positives to be taken from Sunday's disappointing Canadian Grand Prix.

Sebastian Vettel qualified on pole for the race in Montreal, and stayed there for the whole race - absolutely dominating - but was handed a controversial five-second penalty by the stewards for an incident with eventual race-winner Lewis Hamilton.

Vettel had to settle with second position, whilst team-mate Charles Leclerc finished a place behind the German driver. Binotto was of course disappointed with the result in the end, but he has insisted there are positives to be taken from the race.

"We leave Canada knowing that, as indeed over the whole weekend, we proved we were competitive, and that fact has been a confidence booster for the whole team," the Ferrari team boss said.

Vettel was infuriated by the decision to penalise him and even moved the #1 board from Hamilton's car and switched it with his own #2 - but Binotto has said that it's a good sign Vettel is so hungry for success.

"It's a good sign for a driver," Binotto said. "He's very hungry, we are all hungry here and that is certainly what will help us through the coming weeks and months and races."
