Antonelli slips up during Pirelli test at Silverstone: See the exclusive footage here

The 18-year-old managed to reverse out of the gravel slowly before returning to the pits on the shorter national layout, which is just 2.6 Km long.

The Mercedes team ran a mule car based on their 2024 challenger. After securing his first-ever pole position in Miami alongside sixth place in the Grand Prix, he returned to England and headed straight into the car for the Pirelli test before the race in Imola next weekend.

Tomorrow, another test day will occur at Silverstone with George Russell at the helm to test Pirelli's rain tyres.

Antonelli went off in front of around 20 museumgoers at the Silverstone Circuit. GPblog's Toby Nixon (the author of this article) was present at Silverstone.

The Italian slid straight off the circuit and made many minor corrections on the artificially damp track in the lead-up to his incident. There didn't appear to be any damage on his vehicle as he went off after just avoiding the tyre barrier. He returned to the track after a lengthy reversing procedure.

It didn't seem to dampen his confidence all too much. When he returned to the track, the 18-year-old waved from his cockpit to the small number of fans present at the circuit.

The Pirelli press release doesn't mention his minor mishap. After all, it didn't majorly affect his session. The 18-year-old also went off at the same corner later in the day, bumping over the gravel for the second time before regaining control and continuing. It wasn't quite as dramatic as his first incident.

"The English circuit’s 2.630 kilometre National track layout was artificially watered using water trucks. Antonelli completed 103 laps, the quickest in a time of 47”560. During the first part of the day, the work focussed on the intermediate tyres, before switching to extreme wets in the afternoon," it states.
