After Lewis Hamilton joined this season, he began working with a new race engineer, Riccardo Adami. Since the start of the campaign, communication was not always on point between the two, and that was repeated on Saturday of the Spanish GP.
In FP3 ahead of the practice starts, Hamilton was told over the team radio: "Try again to downshift now, please. If it's working, otherwise we box."
Hamilton then answered, "I just told you it's working," and confirmed he can do a practice start, but Adami once again said: "We prefer to box and check it carefully."
"Downshifting is OK," Hamilton once again explained, he was asked again to box. The seven-time world champion however drove to the grid with saying, "I can do the start, it's fine."
Adami previously worked with Carlos Sainz, while Lewis Hamilton and Peter Bonnington - also known as 'Bono' - were the longest serving duo on the grid before the two parted ways. 'Bono' stayed at Mercedes, and is now in the ears of Kimi Antonelli.

Hamilton on his relationship with Adami

Ahead of the weekend, Hamilton reflected on the situation to GPblog among others. "There's a lot of speculation, I mean, most of it is BS. Ultimately, we have a great relationship. He's been amazing to work with. He's a great guy, working so hard. We both are," he commented on Thursday.
