From 2022, the cars in Formula 1 will look different again. The cars need to be simpler to make overtaking easier, but according to James Key, DRS will still be necessary.
From 2022, the new aerodynamic rules will be used. These were created by Ross Brawn and his team. A strict set of rules that the cars have to comply with should make racing more exciting because the cars will be able to follow each other better. However, DRS will continue to be necessary, according to McLaren's technical director.

DRS still needed

''If the plans work, DRS will have less influence, but will still be necessary. After all, the rules have been made to catch up better. On a circuit, there are only a few points where you can overtake and DRS just helps. On circuits like Spa and Bahrain, however, you also see that you can do without it,'' says Key according to Racefans.net.
''With the new rules it will be easier to follow each other and that will ensure that on circuits like Silverstone and Suzuka you can really stay closer to your predecessor and overtake on the straight. The DRS will have an important role to play in this, but the importance of the DRS will diminish, I agree," concludes the Brit.
