Team scores at Spa: Williams excellent, Verstappen saves Red Bull

After the weekend at Spa, where there was no racing, it's just time to give the teams their marks for the weekend. This is mainly based on Friday and Saturday. These are the marks given by GPblog.com to the ten teams.

Williams: 9

For Williams, it was a fantastic weekend and the situation on Sunday, when the race turned out to be cancelled, worked out well. George Russell had a fantastic qualifying and finished the race in second place. Nicholas Latifi also finished in the top ten (ninth), giving Williams two cars for the second weekend in a row.

Red Bull: 7.5

Red Bull's score for the weekend is largely due to the pole position and victory of Max Verstappen, who picked up important points in the battle for both championships. The team did everything possible to get Sergio Perez, who qualified seventh and then slid off the track towards the grid for the start of the race and suffered extensive damage, to the start. This succeeded, but the race did not take place. After two dramatic weekends for the team, Verstappen's result was a boost.

McLaren: 7.5

The team saw Lando Norris go off the track at Eau Rouge during qualifying. Because the race was not run, Norris was unable to drive his way into the top ten. Daniel Ricciardo however had a good weekend and qualified fourth. Since Norris seemed to be competing for pole before his crash, McLaren can speak of a good weekend despite the crash of Norris. Except for the costs of the crash.

Alpine: 7

Alpine also had a solid weekend. After the fantastic performance in Hungary, Esteban Ocon was back in the top ten. Fernando Alonso finished eleventh but had no chance to score any points as the race was cancelled. Otherwise, there would have been a good chance that Alpine would have finished in the top ten again with two cars.

Aston Martin: 6.5

Aston Martin's weekend also had two sides to it. Sebastian Vettel would end up finishing the weekend fifth, what a fantastic performance. On the other side, there was Lance Stroll, who was mostly found at the back of the field and also had to start at the back thanks to penalties. He never got the chance to make up places and also finished last. Vettel is mainly the one who makes for a nice weekend for the green car.

Mercedes: 6

Has also had better weekends. Where Lewis Hamilton eventually managed to qualify third and also ended up as such in the final results of the race, he does see Verstappen catching up. His teammate, Valtteri Bottas, did not have a good weekend at all. He qualified in eighth place and dropped to twelfth thanks to penalties. Just like Perez no points for Bottas. The only difference is that Verstappen takes the win, Hamilton has to settle for third.

AlphaTauri: 6

AlphaTauri also had a weekend with multiple faces. The performance of Pierre Gasly, who qualified in sixth place and ended up in the race result, made them forget Yuki Tsunoda's mediocre weekend. The Japanese driver qualified seventeenth and was nowhere near Gasly's performance. All in all, a shaky weekend for AlphaTauri, of which there have been many for the team.

Haas: 5.5

It was an average weekend for Haas. Mick Schumacher and Nikita Mazepin failed to get past the first qualifying session and finished sixteenth and seventeenth respectively in the race results. Perhaps most importantly, the Haas cars remained in one piece.

Alfa Romeo: 4.5

Alfa Romeo has had better weekends too. Both cars were finished after the first qualifying session and Antonio Giovinazzi and Kimi Raikkonen ended up in thirteenth and eighteenth place respectively. All in all a weekend to forget.

Ferrari: 4

The Italian team had no grip at all on the wet and slippery track. In fact, both Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc could not qualify in the top ten. In the end, they both finished in the top ten thanks to penalties from others, Leclerc eighth and Sainz tenth, but this is only a small consolation.
