Latifi on Hungary points: 'Haas and Alfa Romeo also had a chance'

Williams was at the bottom of the Constructors' Championship for a long time this year, but in the last two races, this changed completely. Especially in Hungary, both cars scored points, so the team is now eighth with ten points. Seven points more than Alfa Romeo, ten more than Haas.

Haas no longer seems to be a contender for seventh place. Alfa Romeo is close to the points every time, but usually doesn't make it or just barely. Speaking to Speedweek.com Williams driver Nicholas Latifi said the result in Hungary was an important and emotional one for the team.

"Places seven and eight in Hungary were very important for Williams. Shortly after the start, when I was suddenly in third place, I knew: this is an opportunity we cannot miss. It was clear to me that it was only because of the opponents' bad luck that we had swept so far to the front and that I would lose ranks again. But I also felt: today we are going to get points!"

"Such a great team result is fantastic for Williams," continued the Canadian. "In the end, Alfa Romeo and Haas had the same opportunity but couldn't score. When you can secure the first points of your Formula One career, it's an almost indescribably wonderful feeling."

Williams can take more risk with eighth place

Since the team now has a lead over Alfa Romeo and Aston Martin's seventh place is out of reach, all they have to do for the rest of this season is watch Kimi Raikkonen and Antonio Giovinazzi.

"At eighth in the constructors' championship, we might be able to take more strategic risks in the second part of the season, but that won't get us off the ground. We know: on a normal day, we finish around 12th. But Formula 1 is also about taking chances, and we managed to do that in Hungary."

Next weekend, Latifi and George Russell will have the chance to collect points again. Then Formula 1 heads to Belgium for the race weekend at Spa.
