Nico Hulkenberg made a big impression with his substitute appearances at Racing Point in 2020. It was not a risk-free decision, but Hulk was happy with that. Now he is looking ahead and hopes to be back in Formula 1 in 2022.

The 2020 Formula 1 season was a strange one due to the coronavirus and that affected Racing Point in particular. Sergio Perez missed two races and Lance Stroll was unable to attend one race. In both cases, Hulkenberg was the replacement, while people wondered if he was taking too big a risk.

Hulkenberg wants to return to F1

''In the beginning, people said I had to do it, but I knew it wasn't without risk. If I didn't do it, my chances of making a comeback in 2021 would have been even smaller, but in the end, I didn't care. If you don't dare, you won't win," the German told GQ-magazine.de.

Hulkenberg missed out on a seat for 2021 despite his strong performances, but he continues to look for new opportunities. ''I would like to stay in Formula 1 and am looking for a way to get a permanent seat for 2022. Of course, we don't know what will happen this year. I'll just let it come back to me and I'll do the same as in 2020'', Nico concludes.
