Steiner: "That's life, he's just one of many"

Formula 1 seats are scarce, and many young talents will never get the chance to get one. For example, there were several candidates for a seat at Haas before 2021. That team eventually went for Mick Schumacher and Nikita Mazepin.

Not an easy decision. Good news for these two drivers, but bad news for all the others who were hoping for a chance. Louis Deletraz and Callum Ilott were also in line. Guenther Steiner tells Motorsport-Total.com about this decision.

Many young drivers disappointed

"I saw that Deletraz was not happy. But there are undoubtedly a lot of other drivers who wanted the seat. He's just one of many."

Deletraz recently tweeted to Haas, praising Williams and Mercedes for their driver choice which was 'based on pure talent'. It's no secret that the choice of Mazepin has something to do with the financial benefits for Haas.

With Ilott it's something else. It was Ferrari's choice, and they wanted Mick Schumacher in a Formula 1 car. "I don't want to say anything about that because I don't know enough about it. They all know the guys much better, so it would have been wrong for me to say anything," Steiner said.

"The disappointment is always great when you are not chosen. Things happen in life that disappoint you. This weekend we've had one driver in our car, and another disappointed," Steiner said.
