Jacques Villenueve says that Ferrari probably knew they would be so far behind. The 1997 World Champion therefore has a bleak outlook for the future of the team.

Despite some upgrades, Ferrari could do little last weekend in Russia. Despite a great sixth place for Charles Leclerc, there was little to write home about for the team from Maranello. During qualifying both cars failed to reach Q3 and during the race Sebastian Vettel finished 13th.

"Very lucky"

Jacques Villeneuve, son of Gilles, says to Corriere that at Ferrari they knew full well that they would be so far behind. "They really knew that in Maranello. Leclerc got two more podiums in the beginning, but that took a lot of luck. Now there's just no performance and with the unchanged rules for next year it's almost impossible to react".

"We can't talk about winning again until 2022. Next season will be a year to rebuild and to lay a strong foundation for the years to come. Sainz will come naturally. It's a bit like when Schumacher came to Ferrari: after a difficult year he started to win everything. Sainz is mentally very strong, you can tell by the way he drives his races. He also got that from his father."
