The incident happened around 25 minutes into NLS4 at the Nordschleife, while Verstappen was not on track.
A total of seven cars were involved. The other six drivers are not in a life-threatening condition. The rest of the weekend will continue as planned at the German circuit, and a minute's of silence will be held during the grid formation for Sunday’s race at 13:00.
On social media, Verstappen wrote: "Shocked by what happened today...
"Motorsport is something we all love, but in times like this it is a reminder how dangerous it can be.
