BMW has responded with great sorrow to the fatal accident of Juha Miettinen, the driver who competed for the German brand.
"Heartbreaking news from the Nurburgring. We are shocked and deeply saddened by the fatal accident of Juha Miettinen. We lost a member of the BMW racing family under tragic circumstances. Our thoughts are with his family and friends," the manufacturer shared from Imola, where the WEC teams are active this weekend.
Juha Miettinen (66) passed away earlier on Saturday after a serious accident on the Nordschleife. The crash occurred early in the race, after which it remained unclear for a long time what exactly had happened. Shortly before 8:00 pm local time, teams and media were asked to come to the press room at the German circuit. There, it was announced that the driver has passed.
