Carlos Sainz joined
McLaren from
Renault for the 2019 season and he has admitted that he had "good feelings" upon completing the move to the Woking-based team after previously being at
Toro Rosso.
The Spaniard enjoyed a positive season, finishing sixth in the constructors' standings, becoming the first driver to do so from a team outside the top three since Fernando Alonso in 2012.
"
I had good feelings when I moved to McLaren although things didn't look very promising at the end of 2018," Sainz told the Offical F1 Website.
"I had several conversations with the engineers, with Zak [Brown] and the others and the project itself gave me only positive vibrations.
"
I don't know if this has anything to do with the good results but those good vibrations translated very quickly into results and a change of approach by McLaren, a great change in the structure of the team".
