In recent weeks, the FIA changed many members of its personnel at various positions. F1 drivers have already explained they usually see these news first through the media. Would that be the same for team principals? Laurent Mekies answered that in Qatar.

The FIA informs teams about major changes

The most recent major name to leave the federation was Niels Wittich. The race director was replaced with three races to go. Laurent Mekies, team principal at Visa Cash App RB, indicated in Qatar that only major matters are communicated to the teams.

"No, we haven't had any specific communications, certainly not for all of them. When it comes to the functions that are closer to us, we have been informed by the FIA. So typically for the race directors, Nicolas had informed the teams of the change that was going to happen," the team principal began.

Teams have no influence on decisions according to Mekies, who himself spent years working for the FIA. "We have no say into it. We can only be trying to be as supportive as we can in assisting the FIA when they have this large change of personnel to make sure that whoever is coming in, especially in season, that we can give them the right support."

"I don't think it's any team's interest to have a weak FIA and therefore we can only witness the changes and try to be as helpful and supportive as possible with the new people that are coming in," concluded the Frenchman, while the other two team principals present, Mike Krack (Aston Martin) and James Vowles (Williams) had nothing to add.
