Zak Brown has confirmed McLaren are looking at Red Bull-owned Carlos Sainz. The Spaniard is currently driving at Renault on a ‘loan’ type deal.

The 23-year-old was expected to replace Daniel Ricciardo should he have moved to a different team. But with that now looking unlikely, Sainz could be the man to miss out.

Speaking about Sainz, Zak Brown seemed very interesting and had already put some thought into the questions asked.

“Carlos Sainz is a great driver, and we could be interested in him,” Zak Brown admitted to grandprix.

If Sainz was to join alongside Fernando Alonso, he would form part of a double Spanish partnership. When asked about this, it seemed like Brown already knew the answer to the question.

“From a commercial point of view, it would be good for us. For the sponsors, the important thing is that we have the best two drivers available.”

Sainz was asked about a possible move. The only thing he gave away was the length of the contract he would prefer.

“I never listen to rumours,” Sainz told Marca. “But I am used to talking about my future at this time of the year, and I tell you that I want to sign a contract of at least two years.”
